Beach Work Party - Help Needed!

Hello fellow owners,

As we get ready for the new season, we’ve decided (the BOD) to start the beach grass renovations. The plan is to complete the entire beach grass area in sections over the next three to four seasons, keeping the area under the square footage/dollar amount that would trigger the requirements for special permits. This area of the beach will be closed until it is determined the new grass is well-established and growing and is ready for the heavy use it receives.

The work will include cutting and removing the existing sod and taking out some old trees. (the sod has been cut and the trees have been cut down and stumps ground out). We will be placing drainable/sandy fill, smoothed, leveled out, compacted, and then add 4-6” of topsoil, leveled and rolled, fine grading, and roll again. The sprinkler heads will be adjusted to fit the new elevations and verify complete coverage(this will be done by KJ’s). Finally, we’ll install sod. Jim Mckiernan researched sod and located a type of sod called RTF, which is supposed to grow well in high-alkali environments. The topsoil is screened potato shed dirt which is supposed to be the best topsoil available in eastern Wa.

The following is the schedule for the work parties: (We’ll break for lunch at noon.)

  • Saturday, May 4th, 9:00-4:00

  • Sunday, May 5th, 9:00-12:00

  • Saturday, May 11th, 9:00-4:00

And if needed…

  • Saturday, May 18th, 9:00-4:00

  • Sunday, May 19th, 9:00-12:00

You’ll need:

  • Good work shoes

  • Gloves

  • Rake (garden or grading type)

  • Shovels

  • Good work ethic.

We would like to see a big turnout for this as we know almost all of you use the beach frequently. There will be approx. 25% of the beach closed during each phase of this project, so the more help we get the faster it will get done and we can open the area back up for use.

Any questions or comments can be sent to myself or Jim Mckiernan.

See you all there
Thanks,
Randy Hill
